TRI-TRONICS BARK LIMITER

Nikki: This text is from REVIEWS OF BARK LIMITER. I cleaned up the text a LOT to leave just the meat of the reviews... Organize quotes into STORIES if you can like I did the first one. I removed all the line breaks to put it all in one para for a STORY.For THEMES based around features/benefits/problems/etc. and put stuff where it makes sense... for THEMES I want separate comments on separate lines,

BARK LIMITER REVIEWS SUMMARY

KNOWN ISSUES

Manufacturer issues:

XS issues fixed in G3 which came out in SEPT 2009

Steve says: 2-year Period of Quality Control problems

Warranty is shorter than other TT products because useful life is shorter, more wear and tear.

$60 post warranty repair, almost better off getting a new collar.

Product Design Issues

After changing the battery, if not sealed properly then not waterproof any more.

-- More XS than G3?

Only triggers on vibration. ??? Do bumps cause it to go off?

Doesn’t trigger on high-pitched barks or whines, not enough vibration to trigger???

On/Off button wears out pretty quickly

Product Use Issues

Collar not on tight enough for vibration to be recorded.

Collar not on tight enough for contact points to deliver shock.

Dog’s coat thick enough to insulate from SHORT contact points.

Collar on too long, causes wear / sores on neck.

Collar gets wet -- is water RESISTANT, NOT WATER-PROOF

Triggers on subvocalization before a loud bark may LOOK like random shock or other dogs’ barking triggering shocks.

Dogs are smart

Dogs realize when battery is weaker.

Dogs are collar-wise and know when collar is off = no shocks.

Dogs (or other dogs) can chew the collar strap and then destroy the collar itself.

Ask folks to check their collars right before the warranty period expires.

IDEAS FOR IMPROVEMENTS

The only thing I would change would be I'd put a quick release clip on the collar…….

SMALL DOG The only flaw is that the collar is a little big for him and it would be nice if the collar had a snap in place buckle so that you didn't have to adjust for sizing every time you put the collar on.

Consider carrying an ultra-sonic bark eliminator as well.

ON BATTERIES

BATTERY LIFE

  1. Plus, this is the only bark limiter I know of that lets you use batteries that can be purchased at any drugstore or grocery store. This is very convenient.
  1. However, the battery that came with the limiter did last over a year, which is amazing.
  2. Batteries last long time, works great.
  3. haven't replaced battery yet and they have been used for 6 months.
  4. my dog wears it in every kind of weather and environment and the acceleramator feature turns it off when he's not moving which means that the batteries last 4-6 months or more.
  5. Sleep feature greatly extends battery life.
  6. Long battery life and rugged construction made this worth every penny.
  7. Collars work very well, just make sure the batteries are charged before you start thinking otherwise.
  8. I haven't had to replace the batteries in one year.

USER-REPLACEABLE, EASY TO GET

  1. As soon as they figure out the batteries are weak they start barking again but the batteries are not expensive.

  1. The dogs won't bark when it has a working battery and it has skin contact.
  2. The collar's settings and adjustments were easy to deal with, and the barking stopped being a problem before the battery ever wore out.
  3. I love that they are waterproof, give feedback on how many times they barked during the day at a particular level of correction and that they save battery power by going into sleep mode when the dogs are still for a period of time.
  4. I love them, great improvements, battery life good, and great new feature with the "counter".
  5. These collars are great! With a little maintenance, regular battery changes, and an occasional cleaning, they have held up for YEARS.
  6. long lasting battery, and fully adjustable
  7. The battery is now dead on one of them.
  8. Now what do I do to get a new battery?
  9. Batteries are a little spendy but they last quite awhile.
  10. I have 2 of these collars and they never fail and rarley need a battery change.
  11. The battery has a nice long life and it's easy to set the right level of correction.
  12. Working strong still on the same battery
  13. Battery lasted about a year.
  14. Looking into a replacement battery now.
  15. Great Product - Battery lasts about 1 year, relatively easy to replace battery.
  16. Replaced the collar after a year and the batteries.
  17. Long battery life, good range of corrections.
  18. It even works when the battery was dead.
  19. replaced battery after one year.
  20. I like the fact that you can lay the collar down and it turns off by itself and that it has a user replaceable battery.

  1. Rechargeable battery would be a major improvement
  2. also it goes to sleep to save battery life and takes sometime to wake up and deliver shocks.
  3. Decent product, however, battery life is nowhere near what is advertised.
  4. The battery seems to last a good amount of time but it has a flaw with being turned on.
  5. However, the battery that came with the limiter did last over a year, which is amazing.

BARK ODOMETER:

BARK ODOMETER: My favorite feature is the Bark Odometer, it is like a daily report card and it doesn't lie! I have tried other bark collars but they required charging daily and I had no way of knowing whether or not they were working when I was away.

BARK ODOMETER:The 1st evening we recorded 15 events of barking. After making an adjustment of 1 level the next day, we reduced the barking events to 2! Great device - great quality as you would expect from Tri-Tronics.

BARK ODOMETER: The bark odometer has been particularly useful in providing data to my neighbors, who had complained about excessive barking.

BARK ODOMETER: The feed back from the collar letting you know how many times he barked is a nice feature.

BARK ODOMETER: I also like the fact that I can see how many times they have barked.

That tells me the collar is effective.

BARK ODOMETER: I love the fact that it is reliable and it keeps count of how many corrections happen when we're not home.

BARK ODOMETER: I love the feature that shows the number of corrections upon shut off.

BARK ODOMETER: Other dog collars out there just don't seem to compare, though, in terms of adjustability, and especially the counter!

BARK ODOMETER: Thank you for all of your help in choosing this collar - besides all of the other features, the odometer, in my opinion, makes all of the difference!

BARK ODOMETER: The correction feedback feature is great.

CONTACT POINTS:

I have to shave the neck of one of my dogs for it to make contact with the skin because it is part chow.

CONTACT POINTS: First few days 11-13 corrections, tightened the collar, switched to the longer prongs and cut the hair over his larynx.

CONTACT POINTS: I’ve used a variety of different bark collars over the years and the Tri-tronics collars work really well to immediately stop a dog from barking once placed correctly on the dog.

CONTACT POINTS: The key to achieving sucess is to make sure you have the collar properly fit to the dogs neck, not too tight but tight enough.

CONTACT POINTS: Bad: Thick hair requires the long contacts but the long contacts prevent the collar from being tight enough to stay on her throat if she shakes her head.

CONTACT POINTS: The negative is that the collar does not come with contacts long enough to work on a long haired dog.

PROBLEM/CONTACT POINTS: Two of my dogs have a problem with getting hot spots when wearing collars with contact points for any length of time.

Other problem I have is two of my dogs have a problem with getting hot spots when wearing collars with contact points for any length of time.

AUTO SHUTOFF:

AUTO SHUTOFF: The fact that it shuts itself off when no motion is felt is excellent; especially when I take it off the dog and forget it on the shelf.

AUTO OFF SWITCH -- Love the fact that I don't have to turn it on and off or reset the level each time I use it. This feature allows even the the kids to put the collar on the dog when needed.

AUTO SHUT OFF: My beagle is stubborn unlike any other, it works very well and I love the fact it has a SLEEP mode.

AUTO SHUT OFF: I love the sleep mode feature and the easy change levels.

LEVELS:

LEVELS: The 5 different levels is great, 1 of my dogs quit barking at level 3, the other required level 5 (but he's a little crazy :)) I'm very happy I spent the extra money and got a quality collar that only shocks my dog/s when they need it.

LEVELS:I love the sleep mode feature and the easy change levels.

LEVELS: I can easily change the levels depending on what dog I have it on.

LEVELS: Love the collar! I love that I can see the number of corrections made and adjust accordingly.

LEVELS: We are able to set them at the perfect level for each dog and it effectively stops them from barking.

LEVELS: The different levels of correction combined with the feedback lights to indicate how many times the dog barked allowed me to set it to the proper level, not too much or too little to be effective.

PROBLEMS

Sensitivity:

SENSITIVITY: I have had one problem with it though and that is that it will pop my dog when he is whistling/whining or yawns deeply. I have worked on changing the intensity but it does not seem to work for my youngest dog who whines a little more than average.

SENSITIVITY: The only down side is that the dogs can't play with them on as they are that sensitive.

SENSITIVITY: Any aggetation and it will go off if you are touching the contact, and your dog can get shocked, too.

SENSITIVITY: The only disappointment is that the collar seems to work only at certain pitches - for instance it picks up a deep throaty bark but then my dog yipes at a higher pitch over and over and over and over -

SENSITIVITY: Does well most of the time, but occasionally will shock the dog when he isn't barking.

SENSITIVITY: 4 stars instead of 5 because we are having some false responses.

When the dogs bump collars or sometimes when heavy trucks rumble past.

Something in the design to reduce false positives would be great.

SENSITIVITY: sometimes gives her a little jolt without her barking.

bumping into the doghouse etc

SENSITIVITY: Just ok. Takes alot of adjustment on my dog. Sometimes too sensitive and causes pain, other times not enough. Also caused sores on my dogs neck.

SENSITIVITY: Also, be very careful while using these collars. They are sensitive to more than just barking. They can go off whether the dog is barking or not. That's not good for the dog.

SENSITIVITY: The collar did the job I bought it for but the sencitivity to giving a shock when my dog wasn't barking from rubbing on something or scraching

SENSITIVITY: The barking collar does not go off when the dog barks.

Then when Rocky makes a little noise (not a full bark) the thing zaps him hard.

I purchased two but will not use in on my border collie.

Both the dogs are agility champions.

SENSITIVITY: The Tri-tronics collar had been recommend to me as the best bark collar but I feel and some of my friends have the same experiences is that the collar does not work well with multiple dogs , The collar will go off when another dog barks and sometimes will randomly go off.

SENSITIVITY: I have had one problem with it though and that is that it will pop my dog when he is whistling/whining or yawns deeply.

I have worked on changing the intensity but it does not seem to work for my youngest dog who whines a little more than average.

SENSITIVITY: One of them, unfortunately, shocks the dog when I take it off/unbuckle it from his neck, no matter how careful I am.

LIFE SPAN

PROBLEM/LIFE SPAN: The collar worked for about a month.

After that, in spite of my contacts about it, I never received a response.

I have 2 dogs and bought 2 collars.

neither one lasted! So, I am very unhappy about the service and reliability of this company.

Laurel Doll

LIFE SPAN: I HAD TWO OF THEM. ONE AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AFTER FIRST BARK. THE OTHER ONE THE ON OFF BUTTON DID NOT WORK.

SERVICE AT TRI-TRONICS IS NOT COST EFFICIENT,ALMOST CHEAPER TO BUY A NEW ONE.I DID, ANOTHER BRAND

LIFE SPAN: Bark Limited would malfunction and dog's nervous shaking would set the unit into a state of constant reinforcement. VERY BAD!

LIFE SPAN: The actual collar only worked for just under one year.

It was rarely used - so needless to say I was very dissapointed that it didn't last long.

So it just sits in the container it came in.

It wasn't cheap so I expected the life of the collar to be longer than one year.

Just a waste of money.

Any suggestions?

LIFE SPAN: Quality wise I'm on my 3rd one becasue repair is close to the price of new.

LIFE SPAN: It worked great at first, but has not been working for a few years now; I NEED a new one (no $$$$).

LIFE SPAN: I would have given it an excellent but one of the three bark collars stopped working right after the first year of use.

LIFE SPAN: I was very happy with the Tri-trponics bark collar for the first year or so, but it is now broken.

LIFE SPAN: This is my third one; after a few years they just seem to stop working and become difficult to turn on and off.

COLLAR WISE:

COLLAR WISE: Worked well at first but he does a quick high pitch bark that doesn't set the bark control off

COLLAR WISE: Its good for some dogs I'm sure. However mine has learned the coillar and knows when it will shock as well as he is still able to bark through the highest setting.

COLLAR WISE: My dog, Taz is able to move it around his neck, and once he does that it doesn't work as well.

COLLAR WISE:The only problem we have is, as soon as you take the collar off, our dog starts barking again.

COLLAR WISE: The product worked great in the beginning!!! The down side is now that my dog has adjusted to it he just muscles threw the shock and continues barking, he has a very high tolerance for pain.

COLLAR WISE: must have collar on all the time to be effective.

BUTTONS:

BUTTONS: The only minor complaint is that the process to turn it off is too close to the process to increase the correction level.

BUTTONS: I have struggled with the correct button pushes to span the three correction types and not turn off the collar (I would prefer two buttons).

BUTTONS: Collar is not the easiest to work and change settings on.

BUTTONS: The On/ Off switch is not very user positive (friendly?).

It needs to be pushed several times to turn the unit on or to change intensity levels.

The indicator lights are hard to read in bright light.

BUTTONS: Have had nothing but problems with these units.

Sometimes they don't turn on and are difficult to change the settings.

BUTTONS: The button that moves the level wore out quickly and I don't feel it turns off easily.

MISC. PROBLEMS:

PROBLEM: Even if they not used too frequently they will will lose their charge over time.

PROBLEM: Only thing the directions were not explicit about was the location, which has to be over the voice box.

PROBLEM: Not waterproof. My collar shorted out when I forgot to take it off before sending the dog in the water.

STORY/PROBLEM:The collar works very well and is very durable. It has been water and many other harsh conditions and has survived. The only problem we have is, as soon as you take the collar off, our dog starts barking again.

BARK LIMITER SUCCESS STORIES

I'm very satisfied with this product. Being able to see the improvement has helped my sanity greatly.Especially when dealing with my 1 neighbor who believes he is entitled to utter and complete silence living in a condo. I have yet to tell him that he sounds like a rhino when he walks around upstairs. It also comes in handy by providing proof that my dog only barked 8 times during the entire day. Thank you for stocking a product that not only works, but has helped my dog become a calmer better dog.

STORY/Success Story I was skeptical about using this on our dog Happy but we had no choice as he was barking constantly at fire trucks, people walking by, or whenever he feels like it.

STORY/Success Story: My 2 year old GSD/Border Collie mix was from a rescue group and developed very loud separation anxiety. He would bark endlessly before I even left the house. He would get himself so worked up he wouldn't be able to stop barking. After I got the collar I left him for 1 hour and there were 40 barks on Level 1. Over the next few days there was a noted improvement.

Day 2 - 30 Minutes - 27 Barks on level 2

Day 3 - 35 Minutes - 15 Barks on level 2

Day 4 - 9 hours - 36 Barks on level 3

Day 5 - 9 hours - 17 Barks on level 3

Day 6 - 9 hours - 16 Barks on level 3

Day 7 - 9 hours - 8 Barks on level 3

I'm very satisfied with this product. Being able to see the improvement has helped my sanity greatly. Thank you for stocking a product that not only works, but has helped my dog become a calmer better dog.

STORY/success story: I have had the collars for a year and a half now and they still work well and my dogs are outside every day and get taken run in the woods every weekend.

STORY/success story: This is the BEST investment I ever made! After 2 years of trying to train Rhys that not everything required hysterical barking, I'd about given up on this 12 lb rescue dog. Was considering re-homing him since he created such havoc in our home. A couple of days with the collar and positive reinforcement - we have a new dog. Since he's no longer living on the edge, his real, loving personality has begun to shine through. It's a miracle tool, don't know why I hesitated for so long. I think this is hands-down the best bark limiter out there.

STORY/success story: I'm very impressed with the G3 bark collar, I've had it about 12 months, and it has reliably and humanely asked my dogs to stop barking when they do bark. The 5 different levels is great, 1 of my dogs quit barking at level 3, the other required level 5 (but he's a little crazy :)) I'm very happy I spent the extra money and got a quality collar that only shocks my dog/s when they need it. I take it off regularly so the dog/s can have a real bark and rough and tumble with each other wthout getting shocked, but when its on, they are quiet. I strongly recommend this collar to anyone who is being tortured by a barking dog, and wants that barking stopped/controlled permanently in 3 hours or less.

STORY/success story: Four days with the bark collar has cured my dog of his annoying bark.

He is a new dog! Listens better and is more affectionate.

STORY/success story: Our lab is very high energy and barking while outside alone was a big issue. The back limiter has solved the problem. At level one and two, the barking continued.

At level three it was less and one day at level four was all we needed to make it go away almost completely.

STORY/success story: These collars have transformed our lives. We no longer have to worry about the dogs barking when we are gone for periods of time or at people coming and going from our house. It was a very worthwhile investment.

STORY/success story: I have two dogs and both have used spray collars and have eventually got used to it. I put this on one dog to try it out and haven't had a single bark in the month I've had it. if I needed another this would be my first purchase. I have had the G3 for 4 years or 5 years I believe. I use it on all three of my dogs alternating it with their regular collar. works like a champ!!

STORY/success story:Collar works extremely well. Testing and training with other dogs , my dog has a lot of drive and energy. Whenever crated he was extremely vocal. The collar fit the bill and his vocalness was eliminated during those time when necessary. Higly recommend this collar.

STORY/success story: I had a dog that wanted to bark during the 5am walk around the neighborhood and in the car. The collar works perfect to stop the barking and never had to use it above #2, Now I just have to put the collar turned off around her neck and she is quiet. Highly recommend.

STORY/success story: My three year old Border Collie feels that she has to bark at trucks who go by her fence. Thank heavens for the Tri-Tonics Bark Limited. Without it I coudln't let her be out at night.

STORY/success story: I tried everything to make my dog stop barking when he was left alone - this is the ONLY thing that worked! Great product, easy to use - I highly recommend it!

STORY/success story: This is a great bark collar. The only one we have found that works on our Beagle--he is a stubborn one. Only had to use the highest setting once. Generally we leave it at a 3. We have used it once or twice on or Vizsla (on the lowest setting) and it worked for her as well.

STORY/success story: Great product and has really cut down on any excessive barking. The only strange thing is that my dog really, really likes the collar. Whenever you pick up the collar he runs over and dances until I put it on him.

STORY/success story: Works very well. The first one I purchased lasted almost 2 years. On my second bark collar now and don't plan on switching to another brand.

STORY/success story: One of the best I ever had. Plus it has turned a problem dog into a more relaxed dog. Very rarely has it corrected when the dog was playing, it has a good sensitivity level. (Well Annie didn't know it was dead).

STORY/success story: used twice and got excellent results-young male now is quiet with command.

STORY/success story: The first time I put this on the pup, it recorded over 40 corrections! The next day it was down to 25. The third day was down around 10 and now it is consistently around 4-5. My guy likes to bark but it stops him at one instead of the incessant barking we had when someone walked, drove, rode bike, or skateboarded past the house. Great product. My only issue is that it seems to either be too tight or not tight enough. I just have to find that sweet spot.

STORY/success story: I really like this bark collar. I have one of those dogs who is a real talker, and without it I would be deaf.

STORY/success story: Just had to drop you a quick note to tell you how awesome the Tritronics Bark Limiter is - even though you already know! I have to give my shepherd mix some of the credit though - it did not take her very long to figure out if she was quiet no more shocks. I started on the lowest setting and the first couple of days I stopped counting when the odometer reached 50! I tightened the collar and increased to the next level. The next day it was 20, then 10, then 3, and 1, and now zero! I am so encouraged by the fast progress - less than one week! - that I may consider a remote collar to teach her to stay in my yard. Thank you for all of your help in choosing this collar - besides all of the other features, the odometer, in my opinion, makes all of the difference! Have a great day!

Nicki

STORY/success story: I just wanted to say that I received this on Friday May 15th. I put the collar on my Rottweiler mix when I went out for 3 hours. In that time frame he had a count of 30 on the odometer. Since then, he has been alone up to 10 hours on the collar and zero is the number! He has experience with invisible fencing and a correction collar, so he learned very quickly. I'm thrilled with the results and my neighbors can now sleep past 6:50 am when I leave for work! Your existing reviews were a big help in my decision to buy this model, so I wanted to pass the good word along myself for others who are in the market. The only thing I would change would be I'd put a quick release clip on the collar……. when I get home he is so happy to see me and has to keep his composure and remain quiet until I take it off!

Connie Pickwell

STORY/success story: I own a 4yr old vizsla that barked so bad that we would have to kennel her in the house after 8pm. We have used 4 diiferent bark collars that reduced her constent barking by 50%. I told my son that we would have to find her another home if I could not find a collar that would reduce the barking more so I ordered the TriTronics bark limiter G3 and she has only barked twice in two days since she got her new collar. We went from 100s of barks per day with the old collars to 2 in 2 days. Thanks for making our lives bark free

Small Dog

STORY/Small Dog: The product works exceptionally well on my hunting dog. He may bark one time, get corrected, and then does not bark again. The puggle is a different story. He will bark and get corrected, but many times he keeps barking. He is a tough little guy. If he were a German Shepherd, we would have the safest house on the block. Overall this is a great product.

STORY/Small Dog: Steve, It didn't take my 40 lb, 15 month old SM long to figure out she could not bark at the neighbors or people walking by our house (fenced yard). Once in the while she will give out one bark but correction is applied and she is quiet. I am sure that her compliance would be even better but my wife's Minature Pinscher (18 lb, 4yrs) does bark at everything. Before I got the SM I did try the Tritonic collar on the Minpin but the collar was too sensative for him and was correcting even if he wasn't barking. You were good enough to take it back. We are trying a small dog electric collar on the Minpin and if we are vigilant in applying correction he gets the message. However, those dogs can endure a bit of a shock before they decide it is easier to comply with your wishes than be toasted.

STORY/Small Dog: I've used the collar for the Norwich and Westie. The Westie would go absolutely nuts when he saw other animals on TV. I finally put the collar on when watching tv at night. I still have to put it on once in a while but we can finally watch tv in peace. The Norwich had a bad habit of barking at other dogs who were on the opposite side of the fence. His barking so much was causing breathing problems, endangering his health As long as he has the collar on (doesn't have to be turned on) he's fine. Take the collar off though and he's right back barking.

I hope in time we can eliminate the collar. Now if I can figure out how to stop him from running the fence when he gets so excited he could spend more time outside.

STORY/Small Dog: The Bark Limiter does a reasonable at keeping the Schnauser in check. The biggest problem is mom dosent fasten it tight enough around his neck.

STORY/success story/Small Dog: I tried this collar on my 3. 9 pound Maltese who has a VERY high pitched bark and this collar works like a charm. After a few minutes of wearing the collar he's quiet as a church mouse. The only flaw is that the collar is a little big for him and it would be nice if the collar had a snap in place buckle so that you didn't have to adjust for sizing every time you put the collar on. I was thinking of trying to order the innotek 3/4 inch replacement collar and punch a hole for the 3rd probe since it only comes with 2 holes.

STORY/success story/Small Dog: I bought this to train my Jack Russell Terrier because we were gong to be taking her on a long flight from Tokyo to the US. Anyway, she learned very quickly, on level 1, that barking was a no no while wearing the collar. Now, I just have to show her the collar when she's barking and she gets quiet. This makes the product worth the extra price. This is very convenient.

Small Space Living

STORY/Small Space Living: My neighbors like me now! I bought this for my 8 month old beagle. I live in a condo so guess how much my neighbors loved my beagle and I? Anyway, it took some trial and error, but we got it to work. My beagle is stubborn unlike any other, it works very well and I love the fact it has a SLEEP mode. My beagle will bark once to check to see if its on. After one correction she just keeps quiet. I love it and recommend it actively to friends, family and people at the dog park.

STORY/ Small Space Living: I live in a condo and my guy has a lot of separation anxiety when I leave. Since I bought this collar about 2 years ago I have had no complaints from the neighbors and his over all stress seems to be reduced when I put the collar on him.

SMALL LIVING SPACE: The bark limiter collar is a must for city dwellers like myself.

STORY/Neighbors/small Space living: I'm moving from a farm back into town and don't want the dogs disturbing our new neighbors. I am pleased with this device and purchased 2. My neighbors will now be happy.

I have had one problem with it though and that is that it will pop my dog when he is whistling/whining or yawns deeply. I have worked on changing the intensity but it does not seem to work for my youngest dog who whines a little more than average. Still I am extremely pleased with the ability of this collar to stop the barking within a week and I encourage others to buy it.

Neighbors

STORY/neighbors: Works better than I thought it would. It has five different levels and I never had to go past 2. After 24 hours wearing the collar the barking stopped. I don't even have to turn it on just making her wear it is enough to keep her quiet. Anymore showing it to her will make her stop (if she even barks in the first place). She rarely barks anymore and its no longer at neighbors. Guess the only downside to this collar is that she doesn't even wear it anymore and it sits on the counter since I no longer need it. Worth every penny though.

STORY/NEIGHBORS: Dogs stopped barking immediatly and saved my friendships with the neighbors!!

STORY/success story/neighbor: I had a neighbor that alerted me that our male 3 year old GR was barking on a consistent basis when we were gone. Absolutely news to us. He was putting his house on the market. Regardless I don't appreciate barking dogs anyway. Since we are not home when he barks, we couldn't correct. First I was going to go with a cheaper product, but decided value was with quality (at least of reviews). First few days 11-13 corrections, tightened the collar, switched to the longer prongs and cut the hair over his larynx. Corrections dropped consistently over the next 3-4 days down to 1 or 0.

STORY/success story/neighbor: Great product, worked just as advertised. Not much has an impact on my Australian Shepherd but this device sure did. Stopped him from charging the fence to herd my horses (apparently he needs to bark to charge). I use it to keep my neighbors happy when I go on vacation.

STORY/NEIGHBOR: The collar seems to have been helping a lot. Whitney no longer barks (or not much, not prolonged barking) except that he intensely dislikes my next door neighbor who is, frankly, weird. She has wanted me to give him away. I have to put the collar on when she is around. She is the only reason he barks now.

STORY/neighbor: The colllar works great! I have it set on level 3, and she knows when it's on not to bark FINALLY. However, when I take it off, she still barks. I've tried bumping it up to level 4, but she cowers down so much, I'm afraid it's too much correction. If I left the collar on all the time, I'm sure she wouldn't bark, but I don't want to do that. She's, just a hard headed dog. Bottom line, the collar works like it's supposed to, and it's very user friendly, in fact, I'm thinking about using it on my wife.

STORY/neighbor: I have six of these collars. I am gone for up to 16 hours at work, often overnight, and have indoor/outdoor runs. I live in a subdivision, so must keep the dogs from barking while I am gone. I won’t use or recommend any other electronic collar.

STORY/neighbor: This collar did the job I wanted it to, and I no longer need it.

My young Jack Russell was barking at the neighbors when he saw them through the bushes.

Once the collar was on and set properly so he felt the effect he instantly quieted down.

After use a few times I saw he was no longer tempted to bark at them anymore, and I took it off! Great training tool!

STORY/neighbor: I live in the city where my dogs tend bark at other dogs which eventually can result complains from the neighbors so rather than letting that happen I put the Tri-tronic Bark Limiter on my dogs and they hardly ever bark anymore. If they do its like a couple quick barks and then they stop. No more constant barking. Now I can let my dogs out in the fenced yard and not have to worry about them barking and disturbing the neighbors.

STORY/neighbor: I work the night shift, & my german shepard / black lab mix never barks when I am home. He's a perfect angel. However it turns out when I'm away he goes into guard-dog mode and barks at everyone (even my landlord neighbor). Needless to say, the neighbors didn't appreciate his guard-dog efforts. So, I bought the XS. Initial I thought I wasted $100 because it had only counted 3 corrections the first night, and no corrections after that. So, I decided to find out what was going on. I set my PC microphone to record all night while I was away. When I reviewed the recording, I heard the rain outside, some thunder, and the dog drinking from his dish. NO barking. It turns out this amazing little gem trained him to stop barking after only 3 corrections. 3 corrections, on level 2 no more barking. Worth every penny!

STORY/neighbor: The bark collar is like magic. When I found the right setting, our Sheltie quickly learned not to bark and is even much calmer now. I ordered one for our daughter in Maine. Several years ago they tried a citronella collar and a bark collar for their large Collie but gave up. Their neighbors have even complained because he barks at every car that goes down the street as well as any visitor or delivery person approaching the house. Magic for them, too. I HIGHLY recommend the Tri-tronics Bark Collar. It's worth every penny.

OFF-MODE

STORY/success story/OFF: We have a very anxious Ausi that likes to bark at any human beings walking within 50 feet of his house and his pseudo-flock of sheep (us). This had gotten right out of control until we got the G3. After a very traumatic first day of wondering WTF was happening to him, Gobi realized that the barking was the culprit. Whenever he feels anxious now, we put on the collar and he suppresses his urge to bark. After a week or so, the very cool thing now is that we don't tell Gobi that the collar is actually turned off!! :-) We just it on and works like a charm. Very nice. Thanks for the great service and the very professional followup. Congrats, Steve.

Cheers,

- Geoff and Gobi

STORY/success story/OFF: Our Sheamus is a HUGE barker. he will bark at leaves falling out of the tree's. The bark collar works very well. He knows the minute it goes on to stop barking! We have it set on the first setting, just the collar itself is now enough to stop the bark!

Misc. Stories (or I’m not sure what to file these under)

STORY/Durability: This is the best bark collar I have used. Easy and convenient.

We have sandy soil in our yard, and the sand would get into the dials of other collars, and make them unusable. Not a problem with this collar, as every thing is well enclosed.

STORY: My dog does build up a tolerance to it, however, so it works best when used intermittently. This is just a reflection of the dog (headstrong and pain tolerant) and not the product. I think it would be extremely effective on any other dog I have owned.

STORY: I think electric collars, used properly at an appropriate setting, are a great tool for dealing with over-excited dogs in general--it's a way to break through the excitement to remind the dog of the rules. It helps a dog regain self-control. Gun Dog Supply sent the collar at lightning speed, as usual. It's a pleasure doing business with such a well-run company.

STORY: This is the 3rd Bark Limiter G3 collar we have purchased. We have 4 dogs and have put these collars on three of the four.

STORY: This collar is a MIRACLE, a LIFE SAVER.

STORY/PROBLEM:The collar works very well and is very durable. It has been water and many other harsh conditions and has survived. The only problem we have is, as soon as you take the collar off, our dog starts barking again.

STORY: Good: Dog barks much less. Bad: Thick hair requires the long contacts but the long contacts prevent the collar from being tight enough to stay on her throat if she shakes her head.

Also, it took only a week for the dog to realize it was collar and will bark without hesitation when it's off. Also, she quickly learned she could bark mildly without shock. Shows how smart dogs are, even a pug. Still would recommend because it has been a help but having to regularly check the collar placement is annoying.

STORY: It's also easier to program than the old style that I have. The negative is that the collar does not come with contacts long enough to work on a long haired dog. Collar has worked well, in combination with bevavior modification has almost eliminated the persistent barking.

STORY: Worked pretty good until the setter chewed it off of the shorthair, always something with dogs. The shorthair is 7 and has the bark/howl of a coonhound. I should probably order a new one before the nieghbors complain.

STORY/COMPLAINT: This is the 2nd one I have had. The first one lasted only 14 months.

It wouldn't work anymore. My dogs are small, old, house pets and this collar had not seen any abuse. The second one is still working so far.

STORY: Moved 2 big country dogs to the city. These collars cured both dogs of incessant barking almost instantly. 4 stars instead of 5 because we are having some false responses.

When the dogs bump collars or sometimes when heavy trucks rumble past.

Something in the design to reduce false positives would be great.
